Las Vegas we love you was the comment from those of us who were able to hit their bed for at least two hours during the night. Las Vegas we hate you was the comment from those of us who did in Las Vegas what it was meant for and were not able to hit their bed for at least two hours. Anyway, reasonably in time we managed to leave L.V. Some of our group had decided not to do L.V. but to spend more time in the Rockies and enjoy the beautiful nature. It was planned to meet later that day in Sedona, famous through its Chapel of the Holy Cross- a church integrated in the rocks - from the german architecture Margarita Staude. Lacking sleep and still loaded with fluids that actually don't belong in the human body, called champagne, those coming from L.V. were not able to produce any exciting action. They were already proud that they made it to Sedona. So nothing spectacular from this part of the trip. In the evening we had an excellent diner in Sedona and even managed to order "Baron de L." the best Pouilly Fume from the French Loire region. We almost felled back at home!

October 30th

Today should be another historical one, because we scheduled to enter into Mexico. Enthusiastic about this fact we drove too fast and were caught by an Arizona police officer who gave two of our cars a ticketr of usd 460.00 and one of the drivers was invited to be present at the court case December 02. After a delay of 30 minutes we could continue our trip Due to the problems with the combination: M&S tyres and gravel stones, we wanted to change tyres before entering into Mexico and in Tucson we stopped for that. Unfortunately the size of our tyres is not the most popular one in the USA and we ended with only one set of tyres that was put on the car of “Einstein“, who also had the flat tyre caused by the gravel stones. His M&S tyres were divided as spare ones amongst the other cars so now we have 8 spare tyres to face the rest of our trip. Crossing the border with Mexico was unbelievable. Immediately after crossing the official border line a new life and chaos began. The insurance of the cars took us less than 20 minutes and optimistic we took off for our Mexico adventure. After a couple of miles we were stopped at a checkpoint. The officials were surprised that we did not have a visum and a Mexican car registration. So, back to the border! There it took us about three hours to get the required paperwork done before we were able to continue our Mexican adventure. Getting late and dark we stopped at a truckers motel in Santa- Ana.

Again, up at 05.00 am and departure at 06.00 am. In the morning briefing it was decided to stay pretty close together in order not to loose each other in chaotic traffic situations. One may guess….. After only 45 minutes of driving, two cars managed to drive out of sight of the other three and simply disappeared. The two cars decided to go for the fast route via the toll motorway, the other three took the scenic route along the coast. The separation that should last till the evening was a fact. Communication was hardly possible, so till late afternoon both teams didn’t know what the others were doing. Trying to find their way in Guadalajara both escaped cars crashed almost into each other! “Maxi” noticed the car of “Einstein” that stood stil too late and almost drove at full speed in his trunk!! Awakened in time Maxi managed to avoid a collision with high speed and only hit the car in such a way that both cars had a small scratch on their bumpers! Unbelievable and a superb correction from Maxi. Finally we found a local police crew that wanted to escort us with their car onto the right motorway. We appreciated that of course very much and we could continue our speedy trip. Roads were good, traffic was friendly, so were all the female servants at the gasoline stations. After 16 hours of driving we stopped at 10.00 pm at Lazaro Cardenas where we found a good NH hotel and where we are sitting now in the business center trying to get as much as information over to our Dutch web site specialist Jos Kelbling who is doing a great job in establishing and maintaining this website, you are watching right now!
